General Description

A single Bassus partbook. Copied by a scribe employed by Edward Paston (1550-1630), a collector of musical prints and manuscripts. The manuscript may have been a gift from Paston to Sir John Petre (1549-1613), of Ingatestone, Essex County (BrettEP). Petre was a neighbour and patron of Byrd.

Ca. 1590 (FelAP). The scribe was in the employ of Edward Paston (1550-1630), a collector of musical prints and manuscripts, whose estate was located near Norwich, Norfolk County.

The manuscript may have been a gift from Paston to Sir John Petre (1549-1613), of Ingatestone, Essex County (BrettEP). Petre was a neighbor and patron of Byrd.
