General Description

A Tenor partbook from a set of four volumes, containing "Gallyardes and Neapolytan songes" (title at end of Bassus). The dances, ending at f. 26, are in 4vv; the songs, from f. 26v to end, are in 3vv with one exception in 4vv. Copied by two scribes. Copied in northern Italy (KämpS).

Acquired, probably during 1560s, by Henry Fitzalan, 12th Earl of Arundel (d. 1580); later passed to Arundel's son-in-law, John, 6th Baron Lumley (d. 1609). Arundel-Lumley collection became part of the Old Royal Library, which passed to the newly founded British Museum in 1757.
