General Description

A single partbook containing various voice parts, mostly tenor. Ten pieces, for keyboard, written on two staves; pieces on ff. 51'-52 and ff. 54'-55' notated in lute tablature. Several layers, copied at different times by six scribes. Manuscript linked by common scribes and repertory to keyboard manuscript Royal Appendix 56 in this library (PartonT). Probably copied in London (GreS). Apparently a commonplace book in which several professional musicians associated with English royal court entered useful pieces (StMP).

Apparently a commonplace book in which several professional musicians associated with English royal court entered useful pieces (StMP). Possibly owned later by Henry Fitzalan, 12th Earl of Arundel (d. 1580), whose library passed to his son-in-law, John, 6th Baron Lumley (d. 1609). Arundel-Lumley collection became part of Old Royal Library, which passed to newly founded British Museum in 1757.
