General Description

A Discantus partbook, with a copy of the print RISM 1575/3 (Byrd/Tallis Cantiones Sacrae 1575), bound at the front following the first gathering of four leaves. The original set would have comprised six partbooks: another surviving volume of the set is Ob Tenbury 389. Copied by several scribes. Some pieces have text incipits or titles only. Copied in England. The original owner was apparently 'TE' (monogram on covers and p. 5); probably not Thomas Este (KermanBM). Acquired ca. 1950 by P. E. M. McGhie; now owned by latter's son, David McGhie. Borrowed during late 1970s by the organist and conductor Michael James (1951-81); returned to present location in Wimborne following Mr. James' death.
