Tenor partbook of a set originally of 5 volumes. Copied by a single scribe, employed by Edward Paston (see BrettEP for list of other books in the same hand and for discussion of related manuscripts from Paston's circle).
Of English provenance; originated in the household of Edward Paston (1550-1630) of Norfolk, a country gentleman and collector of music. Presented to Madrigal Society in 1832 by the collector Stephen Groombridge; placed on permanent deposit at British Museum in 1953.
Since the scribe's foliation begins at 17, the first 16 folios have presumably been lost.
Original covers of limp vellum over paper, inscribed 'Tenor,' (very similar to those of the set G.9-15)
