General Description

Lute song source in large upright folio format. The lute songs are notated in table layout, with the melody and words in landscape format on the page facing the lute accompaniment which is in portrait format. The contents are discussed in some detail in Ward 1992 (Vol.I, 33-36) with concordances to non-lute sources, and mentioned in John Stevens: Music and Poetry in the Early Tudor Court, Cambridge Studies in Music (Cambridge, 1961 repr. 1979)
