In her dissertation, Zoe Saunders identifies the fragment of the Agnus Dei on 6r as that of La Rue's Missa de feria

Main hand is that of Netherlands court scribe Petrus Alamire (KellJ); Warmington however distinguishes music/text hand F; music hands D and K2; and text hands K and Z (KellmanTO). Copied in Brussels/Mechlin; belongs to Netherlands court complex (KellJ). Perhaps one of the manuscripts sent to Emperor Charles V in Spain, mentioned in court pay records of 1524-6. Passed in 1558 to Charles' son, Philip II, King of Spain (1527-98); listed as #60 in 1602 and 1620 inventories of Philip's books. Purchased in 1620 by Real Convento de las Señoras de la Encarnaçion in Madrid; acquired from the Encarnaçion by Benedictine monastery at Montserrat, probably during 1920's.
Several folios damaged by vandals (illuminated miniatures and initials cut out).
Original covers of brown leather over wooden boards, with blind-tooled lozenge design; brass buckles and corners

Blank folios: 1, 5', 18-19, 36, 56'-57, 77'-78, 94'-95, 111-112, 134'-135, 154'-155, 173'; blank staves only on ff. 152'-153.
