General Description

Copied by Netherlands court scribe Petrus Alamire (HuysOC, KellJ); WarmMC distinguishes several other music and/or text scripts: scribe D (ff. 42'-66, 67'-82', 83'-98, 99'-102, 105'-116'); scribe C2 (music on ff. 117'-125); and scribe X (text on ff. 117'-125); to whom she subsequently added scribe I (some of the foregoing music and text). Copied in Brussels/Mechlin; belongs to Netherlands court complex (KellJ). The manuscript was prepared for Pompejus Occo of Amsterdam (ca. 1480-1537), a merchant and representative of the Fugger banking firm. An inscription on f. 1 refers to Occo's ownership of the manuscript. Occo loaned the manuscript for several years to the Chapel of the Holy Place in Amsterdam. After Occo's death, his son Sybrant obtained ownership of the manuscript. It remained in the possession of the Occo and Gilles families (interrelated by marriage) until 1972, when it was sold at auction and acquired by the Bibliothèque Royale (HuysOC).
