Sanctorum arbitrio clericorum proprio
General NoteMot.: Spiritus confinio Ct: Sanctorum arbitrio T I: Ecce nomen domini.T II: Gabriel General Notethis opening contains: end of Cantus I and Tenor I & II (85v) and the beginning of Cantus II (86r); ff. 95v-96 (q.v.) contain the opening of Cantus I (95v), and the end of Cantus II & the Ct (96r). This exposes an error of binding in the ms: the piece is copied on the 2 external bifolia of a sexternion, the second of which was folded backwards in error. So the correct sequence is 95v/86r, 85v/96r -- though the piece still cannot then be performed from the copy as both openings need to be visible at once. Canon: "Signa in principio Bella canunt gentes usque ad secundum Bella et semper incipiendo" (Sing from Bella canunt till the second Bella and then from the beginning again (3 times)" (3 mesuration signs cut-o, c-dot-3, cut-o)
General Notethis opening contains: opening of Cantus I (95v), end of Cantus II & the Ct (96r); ff. 85v-86 (q.v.) contain the end of Cantus I and Tenor I & II; and the beginning of Cantus II. |

General NoteNot in Besseler or Planchart's Du Fay editions. HammCD proposed Du Fay as the author; AllsenFL suggested either Dufay or a close imitator.. Similar to Du Fay's style but (PlanchartD concludes) clumsy in places and lacking Du Fay's melodic invention: he proposes Benoit Sirede as the composer.
