General Description

A Tenor partbook from a set of four volumes. The books are in 3 sections separated by blank but ruled leaves: Italian songs, French songs, and Latin motets.

The scribe also appears in portions of FlorC 2440 and FlorBN Magl. 178; the pieces by this scribe in FlorC 2440 were evidently copied directly from this manuscript (Rifkin) and in the same order. Vorrei saper amanti' appears to be by a different scribe (Fenlon/Haar); the Te Deum and 'Se siorsi' (which is in 3vv only) are later additions; and the Discantus also has some jottings in score on f. 112v from the later sixteenth century.

The contents suggest the manuscript was copied in Florence, but the binding suggests Rome. 'The provenance before acquisition by the Biblioteca Palatina is unknown.
