Copy of the US-NYw (Vogüé manuscript) of the 14th century, though its script and notation are rougher. Produced by nine text scribes and two music scribes (one scribal hand may have been responsible for corrections).There is no leaf in Pn 1585 corresponding to the empty page f. 138 in US-NYw, while the lost folio US-NYw f. 321 is placed erroneously in Pn 1585 as f. 309. In addition, the first folio of the lays and the next-to-the-last folio of the Virelais is missing in Pn 1585. The inventory of Pn 1585 corresponds with that of US-NYw, but the two missing Rondeaux in US-NYw are here numbered Pn 1585 83A and 83B.

RISM B/IV 2: A 15th century paper manuscript meas. 288 x 202 mm. and containing 395 folios. This complete Machaut manuscript is a copy of the important source US-NYw of the 14th century, though in appearance the rough script and notation of Pn 1585 contrast strikingly with the neat, beautifully illuminated pages of US-NYw. Nevertheless the identity is complete down to the less usual form of the breve found in US-NYw, namely with a descending stroke on the left of the body of the note. The foliation is identical up to the end of the Virelais. In Pn 1585 the old foliation at t.r.r., t.m.r. and b.m.r. ends at f. 217. Rubrics are in red, but only rarely in red and blue. The notation remains of Ars Nova type, hence black, and it is written on 10 red five-line staves per page. The binding is of modern pigskin. There is no leaf in Pn 1585 corresponding to the empty page f. 138 in US-NYw, while on the other hand the lost folio US-NYw f. 321 is placed erroneously in Pn 1585 as f. 309. In addition, the first folio of the lays and the next-to-the-last folio of the Virelais is missing in Pn 1585.
