160 French secular pieces, 1 textless piece = 161

(A. Agrícola?)-1, Barbingant-1, Barbingant/(Fedé)-1, Barbingant/(Ockeghem)-1, (Binchois)-1, (Boubert)-1, Busnois-30, (Busnois/Caron)-1, Caron-2, Compère-2, (Convert)-3, (Delahaye)-1, (Dufay)-2 + 1?, Hayne van Ghizeghem-1, (Michelet)-1, (Molinet)-1, (Morton)-3, Ockeghem-9, Ockeghem/(Busnois)-1, (Symonet le Breton)-1, Tinctoris-1, anon-95

204 parchment folios, 175 x 128. One double leaf (ff. I/VIII) is missing. Original ink foliation, I-CC (first 6 folios not included); modern foliation, 1-10; 10bis-203. Original covers of tan leather over boards. Original index, with pieces listed alphabetically by title, on ff. l'-4'. Carefully and beautifully copied, with grotesque initials (in blue, red, yellow, or brown), and texts written in a florid Gothic script. The main scribe also copied CopKB 291 and portions of WashLC L25; a second scribe (who copied the last three pieces) also appears in FlorR 2794 (RifSC). Contents are in two sections: traditional formes fixes pieces are found to f. 163; polytextual and free-form pieces are found thereafter. Repertorial connections with CopKB 291, Wolf A 287, and WashLC L25. Brief treatise on mensural notation on ff. 5-6.

Ca. 1470-5 (PlamDM); last three pieces added in 1480's (LitteMR). Probably originated at the court of the Dukes of Burgundy at Dijon (PlamDM); French origin also possible, as suggested by scribal concordance with FlorR 2794.

General Note

3 voices notated, a second Cantus is derived from the first by a canon, interpreted by PlanchartD as a mensuration canon: "Auge 2m perfecte". The song also has the lowest notes Du Fay writes -- like the mensuration canon a reflection of his meeting Ockeghem (PlanchartD)
