General Description

A Septima vox partbook from a set originally of eight volumes. Pieces are arranged in sections by number of voices (5-6-7-8+) with blank folios separating sections; pieces were apparently copied into the manuscript at different times. Most pieces have only text incipits, though several are completely untexted; a few pieces are fully-texted in the Bassus book only.

Copied by Jørgen Heyde [= Georg Hayd], a musician at the Danish royal court. Dedicatory canons in IV (ff. 17v ff) to King Christian III of Denmark, Duke Albert of Prussia, Duke Heinrich of Brunswick, Johann Friedrich I, Elector of Saxony; another piece dedicated to Elector Johann Friedrich is in VI (new f. 106). Instruments are specified for some of the pieces.

The manuscript is related to CopKB 1873. Copied for the Danish court in Copenhagen, but repertory has close connections with courts in Saxony and Prussia (CreAC); copied in Königsberg (MülleGMP).
