Copied by at least 10 scribes (Petrusova identifies 27). Most likely created as a manuscript for use by a Prague fraternity of writers (fraternitas litteratorum) (Hlavkova 2002). The omission of the Agnus from most of the Mass settings suggests the manuscript originated in a Utraquist community. An inscription in the manuscript indicates that it was sent as a gift to the [Church of] St. Peter's [Chains?] by Michal Muratt in 1611. Copied in Prague.

Petrusova identified 8 types of paper, mostly dating from the last two decades of the 15th century (Hlavkova 2002): Watermark A: 1463–1494; B: 1491–1494; C1/C2: 1473-1490; D: 1493; E: 1482; F: 1439–1463; G: 1492-1502. Hlavkova 2002 includes a table showing their use in the ms.

Date
Dates 1540 and 1546 on cover. According to Petrusova, the oldest part was written on paper made in Italy and southern Germany in the 1480s-90s, and it was probably finished some time before 1500 (according to Hlavkova 2002, probably in three campaigns of copying), loosely bound and with an index of its contents. Later scribes continued to add material and eventually incorporated two new fascicles. When the hard binding was done around 1546 some pieces were moved and a collection of unison hymns was added.
