RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A single parchment bifolio meas. 286 x 197 mm. and dating from shortly after c. 1400. There is no foliation and the back is rather worn. A rather unusual feature is that, while f. 1 is in black Ars Nova notation, f. lv-2v are in white notation with red coloration. Item 2 has the mensuration sign O preceding the two extant parts. The top stave is cut away on all pages, but originally there were 9 brown five-line staves per page. On f. lv there is a blue initial with red filigree, and on f. 1-2 various scribbles include Lamkyn (perhaps a name), Amen dico vobis. All these scribbles seem later than the music, though the one quoted may be 15th century. Only one of the three-part pieces is otherwise known, namely in the Old Hall ms, where it is attributed to Byttering. Unfortunately, the bifolio is not the centre of a gathering, but item 3 is clearly a setting of the Regina celi.
