General Description

Sermons; references, proverbs and short tales, arranged by preaching topic; excerpts from classical and patristic authorities; extracts from long poems in French and English, including Hélinant de Froidmont’s Les vers de la mort and the Proverbs of Alfred; short lyrics in English and French; Latin prayers. The table of preaching topics is laid out with space left for references to be added, additions, annotations and cross-references added by several scribes over time, irregular page size and quality, vertical crease down pages suggests unbound, folded circulation; by early s.xiv, MS may have been at the Hospital of St John, Northampton (hospital’s accounts added to MS).
