General Description

The main scribe was probably Italian; scribal concordance with last two pieces in FlorBN Magi. 176 (RifSC). Texts mostly limited to incipits. Copied in Florence (AtlCM). In the mid-16th century, the manuscript belonged to a Florentine, Andrea Sardelli (PlamSC).

XVe s. 100ff. Parchemin, 230 x 172 mm. Deux foliotations anciennes défectueuses: en eh. arabes en haut des ff. et en ch. romains jusqu'à 73 dans la marge supérieure. Foliotation moderne imprimée au bas droit des ff. (1a seule employée ici). 10ff. mq. entre les ff. 14 et 15 (XI à XX de la fol. ancienne). Les ff. 12v, 13, 27v, 28, 32v, 33, 35v, 36, 37v, 38, 40v, 41, 42v à 44, 58v à 60, 62v, 63, 84v, 85, 88v, 89 sont blancs. Aux ff. 92v à 99, paroles sans suite, musique raturée, noms . . . &c. Au f. 97, distiques de fantaisie: Ego dormio cor meum vigilat e chi non ha danari/ La fa male . . . Au f. 100v, poème italien: Tu say ben che in pene amare . . . Notation mesurée blanche. 7 portées par p. Aux ff. lv-2v, table alphabétique du ms. renvoyant à la foliotation en ch. romains et mentionnant aussi les pièces qui mq. entre les ff. 14 et 15.

Ce ms. figure déjà dans l'Inventario ms. de la Biblioteca Riccardiana établi en 1810 (p. 48). Dès 1550, il était en la possession du florentin Andrea Sardelli qui le 19 juin, le fait figurer dans l'inventaire de sa bibliothèque au f. 4v: «Un chanzoniere di carta pechoara francese coperto d'asse.» D'autre part, une note au f. 94 (peut-être de la main de l'aïeul Zanobi Sardelli dont on signale la mort le 5 septembre 1547 au f. 3v.) où figure une très courte pièce à 4vx. Habemus ad dominum, précise que «sir Ieronimo di Monopoli me fecit 1541 in Burgo Sancti Laurencii e sor Andrea Sardelli la scricto in quisto libro.» Quoiqu'il en soit, le répertoire se situe dans la 2e moitié du XVe. s. avec préférence donnée à Caron (7), Morton (6), Dufay (5), Hayne (4) et Ockeghem (2), Agricola (2) représen-tant la «jeune» génération. Bien que la majorité des chansons soient françaises (53), leur graphie inexacte révèle un copiste, peut-être italien, qui, ignorant de la langue française, s'en tient le plus souvent au seul incipit des paroles.

The "F. Cornelius . . . ianus(?)" on f. 44' is probably not a composer attribution (PlamSC).

The scribe was probably Italian; scribal concordance with last two pieces in FlorBN Magi. 176 (RifSC). Ca. 1480-5 (AtlCM); late 15th century, with some additions from the 1540's (PlamSC). Copied in Florence (AtlCM). In the mid-16th century, the manuscript belonged to a Florentine, Andrea Sardelli (PlamSC).
