General Description

Sold by a small Brussels auction-house in 2014 as part of a mixed lot, and subsequently taken for identification by the purchaser (an art dealer) to the Alamire Foundation/KU Leuven Musicology Research Group for further examination. Found to be a previously-unknown late 15th-c. chansonnier, complete, unaltered, and in its original cloth binding - the first to appear since the 1930s na done of only 6 examples form the period.

The manuscript was acquired through the Léon Courtin—Marcelle Bouché Fund, administered by the "Fondation Roi Baudouin", and subsequently loaned long-term to the Alamire Foundation.

It contains 50 compositions, of which 12 are unique to this source. Full texts of some songs known only from this source. 1 Latin-texted motet & 49 French secular pieces; one in 4vv & the rest in 3vv.

decorated capitals. The manuscript contains a coat of armsrelated to the Dukes of Savoy-Nemours, and thus links the ms to the other Loire valley chansonniers (where the Dukes of Savoy had possessions).
