General Description

A single Bassus partbook. Copied in London by a single scribe, who also wrote LonLP 764. May have been used at Westminster Abbey, the Chapel Royal, or Lambeth Palace. As indicated by the inscription on f. ii_v, on 21 March 1639/40 it was owned by John Finch, at the time Chief Justice of the Common Pleas.

Paper with two different watermarks: (1) foolscap, with countermark 'F(?) D I'; (2) crown, with countermark 'F(?) D I' . Neither of these watermarks appears in Heawood.

The volume was listed as no. 385 in Ecclesiastical Art Exhibition, 1909, when it was owned by Herbert Millingchamp Vaughan of Llangeodmore, Cardigan. It was subsequently owned by J. Bunney, Cornwall. Ca. 1630-40? (presumably approximately collateral with LonLP 764). Copied in London, possibly for use in Westminster Abbey, in Chapel Royal, or in Lambeth Palace chapel services, restarted by Archbishop William Laud in 1633. Apparently owned in 1639 by John Finch (inscription on f. ii').
