General Description

A single Tenor partbook. Two sections of printed music, two sections of manuscript music: (1) ff. 5-30v - full anthems, part of tenor cantoris book of print RISM 1641/5; (2) ff. 31-83v - full anthems, in manuscript; (3) 84-93 - verse anthems, another part of tenor cantoris of RISM 1641/5; (4) ff. 93v-209v - verse anthems and Services, in manuscript. A small number of full anthems are also copied in this last section.

Copied by one main scribe, who also wrote LonBL 30479; slightly later additions by John White, who also wrote DurC C17 and portions of DurC C2, DurC C4, DurC C11, DurC C12, DurC C13, DurC C15, DurC C19, and LonBL 30479 (Brian Crosby). Many concordances with LonBL 30479; both books have many concordances with YorkM 29, which may have been their source (LehurT). Copied in Durham, for use of the cathedral choir; probably commissioned by George Davenport, chaplain to Bishop John Cosin of Durham. Purchased by British Museum at a Sotheby's sale in 1877.
