General Description

Copied by one main scribe; five additional scribes, as follows: (1) assembled folios in present order and added substantial number of pieces on openings left blank by main scribe; (2) wrote Mass on ff. 121'-126' + 127'-131; (3) wrote Mass on ff. 132-138; (4) wrote textless piece on f. 123; (5) made later additions at various places throughout manuscript (SnowM).

Repertory in five main sections: I (ff. 1-46): Introits, with earliest layer generally ordered according to liturgical calendar; II (ff. 46'-175'): Mass Ordinary cycles and sections; III (ff. 176-257'): motets, miscellaneous liturgical pieces, and other works; IV (ff. 258-286'): hymns; V (ff. 287-305'): Magnificats.

Probably copied in Bohemia or Silesia (SnowM); possibly copied in Moravia, perhaps for use at Olomouc Cathedral or similar institution (StroNA). Acquired at an unknown time by Strahov Premonstratensian monastery (subsequently disbanded) in Prague; library of former monastery now administered by Czech National Literary Academy.
