General Description

Treatises (by Jean de Muris, John Hothby, Simon Tunstede, and others) are from 14th and 15th centuries, but copied in 16th century by William Chelle, Precentor of Hereford, partly from LonBL 10336 (including Dunstable tenor part). Copied at Hereford. According to an inscription on f. 48', Chelle later gave the manuscript to John Parkar. In early 17th century, manuscript came to Lambeth Palace Library. Collection transferred to Cambridge in 1648; returned to Lambeth Palace in 1664.

i parchment + viii paper + 72 paper + i parchment folios, 202 x 145. New pencil foliation, 1-73, includes back flyleaf. Blank folios: 18', 43'-48, 49-72' (later scribblings on ff. 69', 70', 72'). Original covers of stamped leather on cardboard, with two panels containing various figures and heraldic motifs. No index. Treatises (by Jean de Muris, John Hothby, Simon Tunstede, and others) are from 14th and 15th centuries, but copied in 16th century by William Chelle (see below), partly from LonBL 10336 (including Dunstable tenor part). Some initials and music in red ink. Watermark is Briquet # 12594.
