General Description

The main part of the manuscript includes the Topographia Hiberniae of Giraldus Cambrensis and various verses on sleep, the family of the B.V.M., etc. The music follows on f. 33-37v. Only the three-part Kyries have music, but other three-part compositions for which no notes were inserted include the V. Virgo dei genitrix to the Gradual Benedicta et venerabilis, part of a Gloria and the Alleluya V. Post partum virgo.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 267 x 188 mm. and containing 37 folios. The main part of the manuscript includes the Topographia Hiberniae of Giraldus Cambrensis and various verses on sleep, the family of the B.V.M., etc. The music follows on f. 33-37v and dates from the 14th century. Here the margins have been slightly cut down. The score notation is of Ars Nova type with Gothic script. Only the three-part Kyries have music, but other three-part compositions for which no notes were inserted include the V. Virgo dei genitrix to the Gradual Benedicta et venerabilis, part of a Gloria and the Alleluya V. Post partum virgo. There are 9 red five-line staves per page, and green and red initials alternate. The typical English tendency to join together c.o.p. ligatures is noticeable, while ascending oblique ligatures may also indicate insular origin. The binding is a typical Arundel one of granulated brown leather with the arms of the Arundel Library on the front cover.
