General Description

An Altus partbook from a set originally of four volumes: the other surviving volumes are B-Br IV 90 (Discantus) and Tournai, Bibl., 94 (Tenor). Copied by two scribes (ff. 1'-16 and ff. 16'-29' respectively). First scribe also wrote ff. l'-16' of TourBV 94 and most of LonBL 35087; second scribe also wrote ff. 17-30' of TourBV 94 (KesselsC). Bought from antiquarian bookseller C. Van Loock (Brussels) in January 1996.

1 parchment partbook (D-i + 26 + i folios), 78 x 110. TourBV 94 is the tenor partbook of this set. Modern foliation, which takes into account missing ff. 3, 6, 28; ff. 27 and 29 are incorrectly numbered 28 and 30. Original leather covers, blind-tooled with animal figures and borders inscribed: "Ludovicus Bloc / ob laudem / xpristi librum hunc / recte ligavi"; Louis Bloc, book-binder, was active in Bruges, 1484-1529 (IndS). Miniatures and borders illuminated in Ghent-Bruges style, almost identical to those in TourBV 94; inked calligraphic initials.

Date 1511 found in an initial on f. 21 of TourBV 94. Copied in Bruges (HuysDG).
