General Description

The manuscript also contains tables of eclipses from 1414 to the middle of the 15th century, moral tracts, sermons, account listings, and memoranda; the music is on ff. 161-171. . Originated in Somersetshire, England (GreS). On the penultimate folio is a Latin inscription dated 10 December 1418, which states that the book is the property of one John (the surname has been erased), a Carthusian monk at Henton Priory, in Somersetshire. (The monastery, mostly demolished during the suppression under Henry VIII, was located near the present village of Hinton Charterhouse). The book had been given to the monk John by Thomas Türke, formerly perpetual vicar at 'Biere' [ = Beer]. The manuscript was later owned by Baron Howard de Walden; it was acquired by Cambridge University Library in 1915 through the London firm of Bernard Quaritch.

RISM B/IV 4: 15. Jh.; 182 Blätter Papier + je 3 Pergament Vorsatz- und Nachstoßblätter, 219 x 148 mm. Moderne Foliierung - Einband: originale Deckel fehlen; Handschrift in Schachtel aufbewahrt.

Diese Handschrift stammt, wie sich aus den in ihr enthaltenen Ekliptiktabellen ergibt, aus dem frühen 15. Jh. (um 1415). Sie enthält zur Hauptsache Sermones, Moraltraktate und ähnlich; Musik zu englischen, französischen und lateinischen Texten steht auf f. 161ff.; von f. 161-172: je Seite 8-10 Fünfliniensysteme, von f. 161-169: mit weißer, englischer Mensuralnotation des frühen 15. Jh. (f. 170r/v ohne Notation). Die Handschrift befand sich früher im Besitze von Lord Howard de Waiden und wurde 1915 von der Universitätsbibliothek Cambridge bei B. Quaritch gekauft.
