Original numbering of pieces, in four series: 1-129 (6-voice works); 1-67 (dances, probably for 6 voices); 1-37 (7-voice works); 1-48 (mostly 8-voice works). Piece numbering counts motet partes as separate items; several pieces not numbered. Original covers of brown leather, blind tooled with voice designations, ornamental designs, representations of Christ, the four Evangelists, St. John the Baptist, St. Peter, and St. Paul, each with appropriate motto inscriptions, and several female figures personifying "Spes," "Fides," "Iusticia," and "Charitas." Binding and covers probably from workshop of Hans Düsterbach (d. 1591), of Stockholm (HedbergSB). No index.
Copied by several scribes. Printed staves. No initials or decoration. Watermarks: (1) resembles Briquet #13996; (2) generally resembles Briquet #3009; (3) Briquet #1258. Many pieces have text incipits or titles only.
Ca. 1560-70. Copied in Stockholm, for use at court of Erik XIV, King of Sweden. Compilation possibly associated with Jorgen Heyde and Johann Paston, who came to Stockholm in 1556 and 1559 respectively, following service at Danish royal court in Copenhagen. Partbooks apparently in Kungliga Biblioteket since time of compilation.
