RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A collection of 14 fragments in a probably late 19th century binding of mottled brown paper over wooden boards. Briefly the contents are as follows : f. 1 : Ludwig's description of f.2-3; f. 2-3: 2 fragments of an English manuscript dating from c. 1300 and related to the Worcester fragments ; f. 4 : description of f. 5-6 ; f. 5-6: 2 poorly preserved fragments containing remains of the two-part Procedentem sponsum and two-part lections for Christmas in Gothic neumes on lines; f. 7: a blank modern page; f. 8-10: 3 pages from a 13th century Psalter with staffless Gothic neumes on f. 8-9; f. 11-12: a bifolio containing a monodic sequence in pedes muscarum and dating from perhaps the 14th century ; f. 13-14 is a single page from a 16th century polyphonic choirbook, folded across the middle (meas. 470x360 mm.). The two English fragments are two bottom halves of folios used as flyleaves in binding Buterus, Acta colloqui Ratisponnensis, 1541. Their dimensions are 101 x l40 mm. and 106 x 140 mm. respectively. Unfortunately, only the bottom four staves have been preserved on each page, and even then the top one is cut away a little. The notation and script is typical of Worc, with red five-line staves, red-blue initials, longs and breves but also the lozenge-shaped notes of the so-called English mensural notation. For the German lections, f. 5 employs 7 brown five-line staves, f. 6 continuous lines; the verso should precede the recto on f. 6.

RISM BIV/3: 15.
