General Description

Chiefly a Psalter in a very neat hand which only used half the available space on a page. On f. 102 is a poem in French in black ink in a different hand, which is followed on f. 105v by the music for the English song Worldes blis and the two-part motet in brown ink in still another hand. The motet is written in score like a conductus with no T designation. At this time the manuscript seems to have been in the possession of a woman, owing to the form of the prayers and an obit for the abbess of Burnham. Bequeathed to the Bodleian in 1755.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 13th century vellum manuscript meas. 163 x 112 mm. and containing 107 folios. In addition, there are 2 unnumbered paper flyleaves, one at each end of the manuscript. The binding of chocolate brown leather dates from the 18th century, though the codex was at one time covered by the parchment leaf now at the front of the manuscript. The foliation is of modern pencil at t.r.r. The manuscript was bequeathed to the Bodleian in 1755. The main content of the source is made up of a psalter in a very neat hand which only used half the available space on a page. Initials are in red and blue. On f. 102 is a poem in French in black ink in a different hand, which is followed on f. 105v by the music for the English song Worldes blis and the two-part motet in brown ink in still another hand. At this time the manuscript seems to have been in the possession of a woman, owing to the form of the prayers and an obit for the abbess of Burnham. The music is written in undifferentiated square notes and ligatures, among which the English form of the conjunctura and the longa plicata are conspicuous. The red four-line staves employ b, c or F clefs. The motet is written in score like a conductus with no T designation.
