RISM Description
RISM B/IV 4: 14./15.
[Translation] 109 parchment sheets + 2 front and end flyleaves each, 167 x 122 mm. Ink pagination maybe originating from Gerbert, As well as modern pencil foliation of f. 1-109; also newer foliation of f. 1-42. The 7 red four-line systems per page with sometimes a fifth for the given text line. Black, often faulty mensural notation (without the use of Minims), square notation and from f. 106 to some extent, gothic chant notation. In the pieces written in score, the text of the top voice is written in red. - Cover: 19th century; green Saffian leather.
The manuscript comprises 10 groups of 9-14 leaves, a type of Tropar (Hughes) and comes either from the Augustinian monastery in the Bavarian village of Indersdorf (Hughes) or from St. Blasien (Handschin). Earlier literature suggests it was written in the early 15th century, but according to Göllner it probably already existed in the second half of the 14th Century. It was located in St. Blasien at the time of Gerbert but eventually belonged to Rev. J.C. Jackson from whom the British Museum purchased the manuscript in 1867.
Contents: f. l-2v Credo (monophonic); f. 2v-19v and a similar two-tropes, f. 20-26v monophonic lessons f. 26v-50 two-pieces, f. 50v-70 motets, f. 70-106v monophonic responsories, sequences, Alleluia; f. 106v-108v motets; f. 108v-109v and Alleluia Ave Maria (Addendum).
