General Description

Vol. II of a 3-volume Gradual containing mostly monophonic music; the single polyphonic piece (ff. 53-54') is an anonymous credo. Probably copied and used at Guardiagrele, in central Italy. This manuscript and GuardSM 1c are the earliest known sources of polyphonic music from this region.

59 parchment folios, 530 x 420. No information on foliation. The manuscript is Vol. II of a 3-volume Gradual containing mostly monophonic music; the polyphonic piece (ff. 53-54') is in black mensural notation.

Copying of the liturgical books in this library took place between 1333 and the first decade of the 15th century; the polyphony dates from the early 15th century. Probably copied and used at Guardiagrele, in central Italy. This manuscript and GuardSM 1c are the earliest known sources of polyphonic music from this region.
