General Description

A MS of the second quarter of the 15th century, principally containing statutes in French from the first year of the reign of king Henry IV of England to the fourth year of Henry VI (1399-1426). Fol. 3 is a parchment flyleaf belonging to the corpus, but f. 1-2 and 44-45 are 14th century flyleaves containing polyphonic music of pre-Ars Nova type. There are two motets and three conductus, and rondellus technique plays an important part in these compositions. Fol. 1 actually belongs with f. 44 and f. 45 with f. 2: these were originally 4 consecutive leaves.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 1: A 15th century parchment manuscript of the second quarter of the 15th century meas. 297 x 210 mm. and containing 45 folios numbered at t.r.r. in modern pencil. The principal contents are statutes in French from the first year of the reign of king Henry IV of England to the fourth year of Henry VI (1399-1426). The corpus has blue-red initials, with gold to begin main sections. Fol. 3 is a parchment flyleaf belonging to the corpus, while f. 1-2 and 44-45 are 14th century parchment flyleaves containing polyphonic music of pre-Ars Nova type. The notation sometimes consists mainly of longs, breves and c.o.p. ligatures, or it may be of Petronian type. There are 11-13 red five-line staves per page, and here too initials are blue-red. There are two motets and three conductus, and rondellus technique plays an important part in these compositions.
