General Description

Recovered from bindings. No music on ff. 1-9; remaining folios are remnants of three different music manuscripts, copied by three or more scribes. CurtisWathey divides this source into three parts: Eng. misc. c. 291/I (10v-12); Eng. misc. c. 291/II (13-16v); Eng. misc. c. 291/III (17r-v). Possibly copied in Warwick, for use at St. Mary's Church (inscription on f. 1). Purchased by N. R. Ker at a Bernard Halliday sale in 1942; given to Bodleian Library. Two additional fragments discovered elsewhere in Bodleian Library by Dr. Bruce Barker-Benfield in 1979 were recognised by Andrew Wathey as belonging to f. 13 of this manuscript; now included with it.

9 parchment + 8 paper folios, of varying sizes (ff. 1-2: 350 x 235; f. 3: 175 x 90; ff. 4-5: 165 x 120; f. 6: 330 x 205; f. 7: 165 x 120; ff. 8-9: 310 x 235; ff. 10-12: 145 x 215; ff. 13-16: 300 x 215-20; f. 17: 220 x 195), recovered from bindings; now preserved loose in modern guard book. New pencil foliation, 1-17. No music on ff. 1-9; remaining folios are remnants of three different music manuscripts, copied by three or more scribes. No initials or decoration. 4 : Date/provenance: Change "Bernard Haliday" to "Bernard Halliday."

Second half of 15th century (HarmMMB). Possibly copied in Warwick, for use at St. Mary's Church (inscription on f. 1). Purchased by N. R. Ker at a Bernard Halliday sale in 1942; given to Bodleian Library. Two additional fragments discovered elsewhere in Bodleian Library by Dr. Bruce Barker-Benfield in 1979 were recognized by Andrew Wathey as belonging to f. 13 of this manuscript; now included with it.
