General Description

An Altus partbook from a set of four books. The work of several scribes.

Probably copied for use by the ‘Kantorei’ of the Latin school in Dessau. The MS formerly belonged to the library of Prince Georg III of Anhalt-Dessau.

The set of partbooks was taken to the former Soviet Union in the aftermath of the Second World War. Three partbooks were returned to the library in Dessau in the 1950s; the discantus, however, was erroneously delivered to the library in Dresden (where it was catalogued as MS Mus. 1/D/501). In 1997 Armin Brinzing discovered the relationship of the four partbooks and the set was reunited in Dessau in 1998.
