General Description

A Tenor partbook from a set of four volumes. # l[a]-52 in all books and # 53-54 in D and A books copied by a single scribe, who also wrote #8 of MunBS 1503b (Rifkin); a second scribe copied #1 and #55-64 in all books and #53-54 in T and B books; a third scribe copied #65. A few pieces have text underlaid, but most have text incipits only. Probably copied in Augsburg. Owned by Johann Heinrich Herwart (1520-83) of Augsburg. Herwart collection purchased by Wilhelm V, Duke of Bavaria, in 1585; placed in court library at Munich, whose holdings formed foundation of present Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
