General Description

Music on a parchment flyleaf at the beginning of a herbary. Music appears only on the recto. Copied in England. Later owned by the collector Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753), whose collection passed to British Museum in 1753. The music is edited in Wright 2013.

ii paper + i parchment + 146 paper + iii paper folios, 210 x 140. New ink foliation, 1-148, cancels earlier (but still modern) system of ink foliation, 1-157. New covers of brown leather and cloth on boards. Music appears only on recto of parchment folio at beginning; some music obliterated when folio was trimmed to serve as flyleaf for the herbary. Red staves; no other decoration.

15th century (flyleaf with music); herbary dates from 15th or 16th century. Copied in England. Later owned by the collector Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753), whose collection passed to British Museum in 1753.
