General Description

Main corpus is a Sarum liturgical book copied by two scribes. Hymn and motet faburdens, have been added by a later scribe, and a Benedicamus domino tenor has also been added on f. 133. Copied in England. Inscription on f. 133: 'Johannes Turner ecclesia Sancte Mildrede possessor codicis huius 1543.' Owned in 18th century by Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford (1661-1724). Subsequent history same as for LonBLH 1512.

iii paper + ii parchment + 134 parchment + iii paper folios, 180 x 113 (ff. 126-134 measure 172 x 113). New pencil foliation, 1-3 + 1-134, beginning on third modern flyleaf. Rebound in modern covers of maroon cloth on boards, gold stamped front and back with angel/crown/shield design; leather spine and corners. No index. Main corpus is Sarum liturgical book copied by two scribes in chant notation on red 4-line staves. Hymn and motet faburdens, added by later scribe, indicated by dots or strokes over chant melodies; Benedicamus domino tenor on f. 133 is still later addition in white mensural notation. Gothic initials in red ink or blue paint.
