General Description

A Bassus partbook from a set of four volumes. Copied by two scribes, one for the Latin setttings the other for the German (VollBM), or perhaps a single scribe at different times (Call). Probably copied in Zwickau. Owned by Stephan Roth (1492-1546), rector of Latin school at Zwickau 1517-20, city scribe of Zwickau 1526-46. Bequeathed by Roth to Zwickau Ratsschulbibliothek in 1546.

Blank folios, or blank staves only— D: 22-22', 46-48'; A: 45'-49'; T: 43'-49'; B: 22-22', 46'-47'. Original parchment covers cut from older manuscript, inscribed with voice designations. No index. Copied by two scribes (VollBM), or perhaps a single scribe at different times (Call). Ff. 2-13' in all books have red or green inked initials in plain block style; a few initials have crude floral decorations extending into margins.
