General Description

A volume of miscellaneous papers, including the following with music:

a) 1 paper fragment (= f. 70 in composite volume), attached backwards to modern mounting sheet. Verso contains discantus for 'All thof I kan no fare make'; recto contains tenor and contratenor for 'O verre rotte,' copied by a single scribe, Another scribe later added several textless voice parts, one with incipit 'Mari.'

(b) 1 parchment fragment, unnumbered and unbound. Recto contains discantus of 'Adoro te Domine,'; verso is blank.

(c) 1 parchment fragment, unnumbered and unbound. Recto contains several short textless fragments (ornamental cadences), copied by a single scribe; verso is blank.

Copied in England. Placed on permanent loan at the British Museum between 1947 and 1967 by Sir William Arthur Henry Cavendish-Bentinck (1893-1977), 7th Duke of Portland. Accepted by the UK Government in lieu of Capital Transfer Tax in March 1986 and allocated to the British Library in May 1987.

Anonymous

A volume of miscellaneous papers, with new pencil foliation, bound in modern covers of brown leather and cloth on wooden boards. The following items with music are included:

(a) 1 paper fragment, ca. 265 x 172 (= f. 70 in composite volume), attached backwards to modern mounting sheet. Verso contains discantus for "All thof I kan no fare make"; recto contains tenor and contratenor for "O verre rotte," copied by a single scribe, in white mensural notation with red void coloration. Another scribe later added several textless voice parts, one with incipit "Mari." Painted Gothic initials in red and blue.

(b) 1 parchment fragment, ca. 238 x 345, unnumbered and unbound. Recto contains discantus of "Adoro te Domine," with large inked calligraphic initial; verso is blank.

(c) 1 parchment fragment, ca. 215 x 259, unnumbered and unbound. Recto contains several short textless fragments (ornamental cadences), copied by a single scribe; verso is blank.
