RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A late 13th century parchment manuscript meas. 155 x 120 mm. and containing 220 folios. This source is also known by the older number 458. The corpus is a collection of sermons and the polyphonic music appears on the last page, f. 220v, following an index of sermons. It is written in staffless Gothic neumes, doubtless dating from the 14th century, with the T followed by the Mot. Even so, it is clear that this is the same work as appears in the 15th century ms London, British Museum, Add. 27630 on f. 55v-56. The foliation is at t.r.r. in modern pencil, though occasionally it appears at t.m.r. if the space at the right is occupied by glosses. The binding is of red leather over wooden boards with traces of 2 missing clasps. Apparently the main part of the codex was written in France, but the use of German towards the end and the presence of a motet written in Gothic neumes and otherwise only known in a German source suggests the manuscript arrived in Germany by the 14th century at the latest.
