General Description

An Altus partbook from a set of five volumes. Early layer (of which different fragments remain in each book) copied by single, unidentified scribe; main layer (beginning at Senfl's "Ich armes meidlein") copied by Christoph Piperinus, who also wrote portions of BasU F.IX.32-5 and BasU F.X.22-4 (KmetzH). Copied in Basel. Early layer completed by the time DATB books were acquired in 1510 by the Basel lawyer and humanist Bonifacius Amerbach (1495-1562) (inscription on back cover of B book: 'Bonifacius Amorbacchius Basil M.D.X.'). Later, Christoph Piperinus, music teacher for Amerbach's son Basilius (1533-91), added new paper to existing DATB books, prepared Q book, copied main layer, and presented books to Basilius. Acquired by present library from Amerbach estate c. 1661.
