General Description

One of two choirbooks containing music for double chorus. Copied by one main scribe, who also wrote portions of BolSP 39 and BolSP 49; 'Dies irae' sequence (in MS A.LI only) copied by different scribe, who also wrote ff. 26'-30 of BolSP 49. Probably copied in Bologna, for use at Church of San Petronio.

2 choirbooks containing music for double chorus—

MS A.LI: 60 paper folios, 408 x 281. Original ink foliation, 1-68, on upper right rectos (ff. 50-51, 56, 60-65 now missing); modern foliation, 1-60, on lower center rectos. Blank staves only on original ff. 1, 49', 52-55', 57-59', 66, 68'.

MS A.LII: 40 paper folios, 408 x 281. Original and modern foliation, 1-40, on upper right rectos. Blank staves only on f. 39 and f. 40'. Folios damaged by ink corrosion; some music now illegible. Rebound in modern covers. Original index on f. 1 of MS A.LII lists psalms in order of appearance. Copied by one main scribe, who also wrote portions of BolSP 39 and BolSP 49; "Dies irae" sequence (in MS A.LI only) copied by different scribe, who also wrote ff. 26'-30 of BolSP 49. Staff height 22.5. Inked calligraphic initials.

Mid 16th century. Probably copied in Bologna, for use at Church of San Petronio.
