General Description

A Tenor partbook from an incomplete set (in the tricinia, the Bassus is copied in this book). Copied by several scribes. Nos. 48-59 are dated "Clemens Haineck 1565"; nos 65-87 (pp. 65-107) however are copied from Marenzio's "Madrigali a Quattro Voci" of 1603, and nos. 1-47 from the Tricinia of Gastoldi & others (Nuremberg 1607). The parts copied on pp. 111-132 are all from 5vv settings.

The original owner was Clemens Haineck of Borna (near Leipzig), who presumably gave the manuscript to his son Martin Haineck (= Hayneccius), rector of the Fürstenschule St. Augustin at Grimma from 1588 to 1610. After Martin's death (1611), the manuscript was placed in the school's library; in 1890 it was deposited at the library in Dresden.
