General Description

Polyphonic pieces on ff. 51'-79; manuscript also contains two music treatises by Ugolino of Orvieto (one incorporates Libellus cantus mensurabilis of Jean de Muris). Copied by a single scribe. Probably copied in Ferrara (PirrTA, LockDF) or Bologna (FallowsRA); compilation probably connected with the theorist and composer Robertus de Anglia (FallowsRA). Inscription on back flyleaf ('Paoli 250 lire in Venezia a di 3 Xbre 1712') indicates manuscript was still in Italy in early 18th century. Transferred to Portugal later in same century; inscription on first folio indicates ownership by choirmaster (probably D. Pedro da Encarnaçâo [1729-1808]) of Santa Cruz Augustinian monastery in Coimbra. Acquired by Biblioteca Pública Municipale in Oporto from Santa Cruz monastery between 1833 and 1836.
