General Description

One scribe copied most of treatise text; second scribe wrote all musical examples, including polyphony on ff. 343'-345'; present ff. 1-2 are later restorations by 18th-century hand. This source contains all surviving compositions by Ugolino of Orvieto; missing folios at end probably contained additional works by Ugolino, now lost. Copied in Ferrara (HabBN). Inscription on f. 3 ('Di F. Aurelio Arigoni de S[anc]to Ag[ostin]o') probably refers to 17th-century owner (SeayU). Owned in 19th century by the musicologist Giuseppe Baini (1775-1844); bequeathed by Baini to Biblioteca Casanatense.

MS of Magister Ugolino of Orvieto, including three of Ugolino's compositions with his treatise Declaratio musicae disciplinae. Modern foliation 1-345.

RISM B/IV 4: 15. Jh.; 345 Blätter Pergament, 312 x 225 mm. Moderne Foliierung von f. 1-345 (Originaler Index geht nur bis f. 342). Ab. f. 343v je Seite 8 rote Fünfliniensysteme mit schwarzer und schwarz-roter Mensuralnotation -Einband: jüngerer Lederband.

Diese Handschrift enthält die auch aus andern Handschriften bekannte Musica Magistri Ugolini de Orvieto. Im Anhang finden sich 3 in andern Handschriften fehlende Kompositionen Ugolinos.

Black mensural notation on red staves, with red full and red void coloration.
