General Description

A Troper and sequentiary from f. 3, with Gregorius presul, in a Carolingian minuscule script. From f. 55-58 there are Sanctus and other texts (often troped), on f. 59-59v Agnus tropes, f. 60v-72v Alleluias, then a miscellany including Laudes regiae and the Salve, festa dies (f. 73-76). The only polyphonic piece is a two-part Benedicamus domino of the late 12th century in very fine staffless neumes on f. 2. The two parts are above each other, and fine lines align the two groups of neumes, almost joining them at times. The lower part is preceded by an f clef-letter.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A late 11th or early 12th century parchment manuscript meas. 183 x 120 mm. and containing 78 folios with stamped folio numbers at t.r.r. In addition, 3 blank ribbed paper folios at the front and 2 at the back were added at the time of the restoration of the ms in 1951. Also one ribbed paper leaf at the front, following the new ones, and one at the back, preceding the new ones, doubtless belong to the dark brown leather binding over pulp boards of the 18th century whose spine was strengthened in 1951. The front 18th century flyleaf bears the words "Antiphonarium et Hymnarium ad usum, ut videtur, Ecclesiae Volaterraneae". Many of the original leaves at the front are damaged, and others cut away (or faulty from the start). A Troper and sequentiary begins on f. 3 with Gregorius presul. The script is Carolingian minuscule, and the initials red-green, while the notation consists of delicate Italian staffless neumes, generally 13-14 lines per page of them. From f. 55-58 there are Sanctus and other texts, often troped, on f. 2, preceding the main body of the ms. The two parts are above each other, and fine lines align the two groups of neumes, almost joining them at times. The lower part is preceded by an f clef-letter.
