RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A late 13th or early 14th century parchment manuscript meas. 125 x 89 mm. and containing VI + 174 folios. The last 3 leaves were doubtless extra ones added as flyleaves. In addition to the above-mentioned pages, there are 3 recent unnumbered parchment flyleaves at each end belonging to the binding of plain dark brown leather over pulp boards. The pencil foliation at t.r.r. is doubtless of the same date as the binding, but a partially extant ink foliation, which is sometimes cut away and sometimes erroneous later, may be a century earlier. The contents of the ms are a calendar (unfoliated and here numbered f. I-VIv), a hymnary, a breviary, a processional, chants for the Proper of the Mass, 11 proses and 8 Notre Dame compositions, followed by an appendix of more recent 13th century offices, Marian responsories and Magnificat antiphons. However, it includes 3 stanzas of text, while the other sources only preserve one. The notation is mensural too in the present source, with longs and breves but not ligatures clearly differentiated. There are 8 or 9 red five-line staves per page in this codex, though sometimes only three or four lines per stave.
