General Description

A small Processional for nuns, of South German or Swiss origin. Predominantly a sequentiary, which begins at f. 43 with Letabundus and ends with the only polyphonic piece, the two-part Ad cantum letitie nos invitat hodie on f. 128v-132. Here a wavy blue line divides the two parts. The semi-Gothic script contrasts with the more Gothic script of the two sermons by Hugo of Konstanz, which follow the music from f. 133 onwards; this may suggest that this portion of the MS was at one time quite separate.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 2: A late 13th century parchment manuscript meas.77 x 56mm. and containing 179 folios. Judging by such sources as Don and GenfA, it is clear that this very small codex is a Processional for nuns, and indeed KA 31 also seems to be of South German or Swiss origin. A late 15th century owner was one Margaretha Elisabetha girlin von girlsperg. The foliation is of modern pencil at t.r.r. and the binding of wooden boards covered in red calf. There is a single clasp, and the spine was renewed in 1934. A large part of the codex consists of a sequentiary, which begins at f. 43 with Letabundus and ends with the only polyphonic piece, the two-part Ad cantum letitie nos invitat hodie on f. 128v-132. The musical incipit for Ad cantum is identical with Don 3, except that single notes are normal longs here, as in other South German manuscripts of the same period. Otherwise the notation is of unmeasured square type, using 5 red four-line staves per page. A wavy blue line divides the two parts in the polyphonic piece. The semi-Gothic script contrasts with the more Gothic script of the two sermons by Hugo of Konstanz, which follow the music from f. 133 onwards. Possibly this part of the ms was quite separate at one time. Only red initials appear in this section of the codex, while the Processional employs blue, red or both colours.
