General Description

A bifolium, now pasted inside back cover of missal. Apparently the only surviving remnants of a liturgical music manuscript. Copied by a single scribe. Music copied in northern Italy; missal copied in diocese of Narbonne. Missal apparently in northern Italy by 15th century, where it was rebound, using music bifolio as back pastedown. Bookplate 'Ex libris Franc Com a Thun Hohenstein Tetschen' Deposited by Philip Hofer, 1967; bequeathed, 1984.

2 parchment folios, ca. 257 x 180 (= 1 bifolio, ca. 257 x 360, trimmed from original size of ca. 257 x 410), now pasted inside back cover of missal. Apparently the only surviving remnants of a liturgical music manuscript. No original foliation visible. Black mensural notation on red staves. Copied by a single scribe. Staff height 16.5. No initials or decoration on music folios; missal has gold-leaf initials and marginal ornaments in French style, with later overlay of Italian decoration, including unidentified coats of arms on f. 1 and f. 145.

Ca. 1409-15? (music); late 14th century (missal). Music copied in northern Italy; missal copied in diocese of Narbonne. Missal apparently in northern Italy by 15th century, where it was rebound, using music bifolio as back pastedown. Manuscript now owned by Philip Hofer; presently deposited in Houghton Library.
