General Description

A fragmentary folio with a written space of 172 mm wide. Copied by two hands, responsible for recto and verso, writing a good and a less good gothica textualis quadrata respectively.

1 Middle voice copied in black ink; other voices copied in another ink, now faint brown and barely legible even under ultra-violet light. Middle voice paraphrases chant Gaude Maria virgo (e.g. LU, pp. 1266-1267). Probably ends at the end of the fourth line of the text, at 'permanisti', although a further system, now cut off, may have contained a setting of the fifth line.

2 Incomplete; ed. PMFC 16, No. 33; text is a further trope of the Gloria trope Spiritus et alme.

Written in England. Used to form a stitched front cover to 705:349 BA 5117/1 (xiv)/3, a rental of the manor of Aylesbury in 1568/9, and inventory of household goods there in 1576. Cover unstitched in April 1983. Owned: Packington family, Lords Hampton, from 1568. Deposited in the Worcestershire Record Office, February 1968. Other Aylesbury materials from the Hampton deposit are in the Birmingham Reference Library.
