General Description

A Sarum Processional, with faburden incipits to two responsories added by a later hand on f. 190. Of Irish provenance; owned by Church of St. John the Evangelist in Dublin (inscription on f. 189': 'Iste liber pertinet ad ecclesie Johannis Evangeliste Dublinie'). Later owners include the Irish historian Sir James Ware (1594-1666); Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon (1609-74); Henry Hyde, 2nd Earl of Clarendon (1638-1709); James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos (1673-1744); and the antiquarian Richard Rawlinson (1690-1755). Latter's collection passed to Bodleian Library in 1756.

190 parchment + i paper folios, 280 x 165. New pencil foliation, 1-190. Original covers of faded white sheepskin over boards; buckle and clasps lost. Red and blue calligraphic initials. On f. 190, a later hand has added faburden incipits to two responsories.

Second half of 14th century, with additions (faburden incipits) in late 15th or early 16th century. Of Irish provenance; owned by Church of St. John the Evangelist in Dublin (inscription on f. 189': "Iste liber pertinet ad ecclesie Johannis Evangeliste Dublinie"). Pointed out that the third piece (listed in the second inventory item) begins "Sanctus Audoenus" (not Andreanus, as previously stated), and explainined that this presumably refers to St Audoin/Audoen/Ouen, who also had a church dedicated to him in Dublin.
